Just In: Passenger train killed a Nigerian Army soldier on a motorcycle in Lagos

On Wednesday, a passenger train at the railway crossing in the PWD neighborhood of Ikeja, Lagos, struck and killed a sergeant serving the Nigerian Army.

When it finally struck the soldier who had tried to deftly run across the rail line on his bike, the train was reportedly traveling from Ibadan to Iddo in Lagos.

The tragedy on Wednesday occurs just three months after a passenger train collided with a staff bus carrying employees and their families from the Lagos State government at the same location.

The sad incident, which took place on March 9, 2023, in the morning, resulted in six fatalities and over 80 injuries among the passengers.

Eyewitnesses told DailyTrust that the event happened at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sergeant Jidean Samson, the deceased soldier, was assigned to the 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Lagos, till his death.

According to a military source, the event occurred at the PDW railway crossing, and the Nigerian Army's 9th Brigade was notified of the sergeant's death.

The body was transferred to the Military Hospital mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, according to the source, who did not want his name printed since he was not authorized to talk.

Lt. Col Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the Nigerian Army's 81 Division in command of Lagos and Ogun State, did not return his calls.
