On Tuesday 23rd of the month, the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the Wadi-B crude oil extraction project in Tuba in Jere Local Government Area in Borno State in the North East of the country.
Since 2017, the oil extraction work in the area of Lake Chad has been suspended due to the attacks by members of the Boko Haram group which forced the workers to boycott the work site while some of them were killed by the boko haram fighters.
It is expected that in the next few years, 732 million barrels of crude oil can be extracted, after the successful construction of the well.
While speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari said he was happy to see that, before the end of his term of office, the work of crude oil and gas extraction in the area of Lake Chad has been restored.
He said that oil exploration in the area began in 1976, and in 1985, gas was discovered in the Wadi-B area.
He also expressed gratitude for the kind of cooperation that the government and the people of Borno state have given to the extent that crude oil extraction has been restored.
President Buhari continued that there is no doubt that the entry of the NNPC oil company into the Lake Chad region for oil extraction will lead to good results, especially when considering the success of the company in the extraction of crude oil in Komani in Bauchi state. and Ebenyi from Nasarawa state.

Delivering his speech, the governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, said that this project is the second of its kind that the president has launched in the northeastern region of Nigeria after Bauchi and Gombe states.
He added that the restoration of crude oil extraction in the area will have a serious impact on the economic and social conditions of the people of Borno state and other states in the region.
Later, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum assured the cooperation and support of the Borno state government and the communities of the state in the successful completion of the Wadi-B crude oil extraction project in Jere local government area.
